My View from the Shower

9-14-2010 278

Today as I was enjoying warm water trickling down my body, I glanced out of the glass and saw an image on the wall.  It reminded me of what is essential in my life.  At times I am scurrying about as Martha did trying to clean, cook, entertain and prepare my home for the ones I love.  I realize these things are necessary to maintain a house of order (D&C 119:20).  I realized in that moment, I need to become as Mary, seeking spiritual strength from the Lord first to guide me in my life.

I then gazed out the other direction and saw the Savior washing the disciples feet.  It reminded me that as I turn first to him he will lead me as I serve selflessly each day.  I will feel his love more deeply, I will be able to withstand the distractions that get in my way.9-14-2010 279

As the steam in the shower faded my view I was once again reminded to not stay too long focusing on the physical things in life but go forward with faith, trusting in Him completely.  He will guide me to know what is; first- essential,  second- necessary and then a few nice to do things (inspired by Sister Julie B. Beck’s 2010 BYU Women’s Conference address)   http://lds.org/library/display/0,4945,9118-1-5187-1,00.html ).  I am grateful for this time to reflect and ponder.  I am grateful for this power in the shower.

The shower is where I do all my best thinking as well. Nobody bugs me in there and I have some quiet time. What I'm missing is some good pictures of the Savior to help me focus. There really is no view from my shower though so I'm going to have to use my imagination on this one.

I love Julie Becks talk that you reference. It's some of the best advice I've ever received. I'm still not perfect when it comes to balancing everything, but I'm doing better.

p.s. I forgot to thank you for that sweet card that you sent me in the mail. I've read it ten time because it makes me happy.

It is nice to have uplifting pictures like that to remind us of what is most important. Sometimes we forget to look at the meaning behind them, but I'm glad you were able to learn some lessons for your own life. Love ya.
